Question

Do I need a police report to file an uninsured motorist claim?

I filed a claim with my insurance company after I got up one morning and noticed my car was damaged. I called and reported it I told them I didn’t know what happened. I had full coverage and uninsured motorists with a deductible of $200. However, they filled it under my collision and charged me a $1,000 deductible, saying that I didn’t have a police report. They never said I needed one in the first place. What do I need to do?

For uninsured motorist claims, it's likely that your insurer would want a police report of the incident. What I don't know is if it would be possible to still get a police report and redo the claim. If they make you pay the higher deductible at the end of this, make sure they mark the claim "not-at-fault" so you don't get charged for being in an accident.
