Question

What's the difference between collision and liability, versus full coverage?

My car is paid off but is worth between $25k and $30k. I had to carry full coverage while I made payments on it but want to see what my options are now. What's the difference if I were to get liability insurance with collision and comprehensive, versus just full coverage?

This is a great question. Insurance terms can be really confusing. The term "full coverage" can mean a lot of different things.  So when you purchase liability, uninsured liability, and comprehensive and collision then you and your vehicle are covered if you are involved in a covered claim regardless of fault. This is typically the type of insurance you will want to purchase to make sure that if your vehicle is involved in an accident that it would be covered once you pay your deductible (if applicable).

There are also a lot of other optional coverages that many people consider full coverage, like rental car coverage.  This type of coverage would provide you with a rental car in case that you were involved in an accident.  Many insurance companies even offer glass coverage in the event that a piece of gravel cracks your windshield or something like that. Every insurance company has a variety of additional coverages you can add to your policy, we insurance nerds call these endorsements. You can call and speak to one of our Licensed Insurance Agents to get a personalized quote for you at 888-444-8949 and we can explain all the available coverage options that we have available to you.

Hope this helps!

Do I pay a deductible for a liability claim?

Great question, thanks for reaching out to The Zebra. You are not responsible for a deductible unless you have comprehensive and collision coverage. Since you only have liability insurance, the damages to your car will not be covered which means there is no deductible.Liability coverage is there to…
